DESCRIPTION:The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host longtime Yankee Magazine editor Mel Allen as its next speaker in the Libra Distinguished Lecture Series on Tuesday\, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center’s Multi-Purpose Room and via Zoom. Allen spent nearly a half-century at Yankee Magazine as a writer and editor. During his talk\, he will read from his new book\, “Here in New England\,” bringing the people and places of New England to life through storytelling and images. A book signing and reception with refreshments will immediately follow the talk\, which is free and open to the public. Neighborhood Books will offer copies of “Here in New England” for purchase after the talk. DESCRIPTION:The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host digital artist Sarah Sweeney as its next speaker in the Libra Distinguished Lecture Series on Thursday\, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center’s Multi-Purpose Room and via Zoom. Sweeney\, the Ella Van Dyke Tuthill ’32 Chair in Studio Art at Skidmore College\, will share her project My Deepfake Dad. In this project\, she uses artificial intelligence\, archival materials\, interviews\, and other source material to construct a series of audio conversations and photographs featuring her deceased father. In this presentation\, she will play the second conversation in this series and discuss the project as a whole. This event is free and open to the public. All are encouraged to post photos on social media and use the “#umpispiritweek2024” hashtag. \nTuesday\, September 10th\nSpirit Week Activity: UMPI Gold Day\nAll day\nWear your UMPI Gold today! All are encouraged to post photos on social media and use the “#umpispiritweek2024” hashtag. \nWednesday\, September 11th\nSpirit Week Activity: UMPI Major Day\nAll day\nWear or share an item related to your major or take a photo of yourself working in the field! All are encouraged to post photos on social media and use the “#umpispiritweek2024” hashtag. \nThursday\, September 12th\nSpirit Week Activity: UMPI Sport Day\nAll day\nShow off your UMPI Spirit! Wear gear supporting your favorite UMPI Sports team (UMPI colors and/or sport item counts). All are encouraged to post photos on social media and use the “#umpispiritweek2024” hashtag. \nPreble Hall Open House\nAll day\, Preble Hall\nPlease stop by Preble Hall to visit the offices and staff. There will be goodies to eat and drink and a gift basket raffle. \nConvocation and BBQ Lunch\n11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.\, Wieden Hall\nJoin us for our annual Convocation event where we welcome our incoming class and celebrate all UMPI Owls. A BBQ lunch will follow\, outside Wieden Hall\, weather permitting. \nLawn games and Spirit Spin\n2-4 p.m.\, Campus Center (rain location: Owl’s Nest/Clubhouse)\nSpin the wheel for UMPI swag and enjoy games on the lawn. Everyone welcome! \nWomen’s Basketball Spaghetti Supper Fundraiser\n4:30-6 p.m.\, Campus Center MPR\nEnjoy delicious spaghetti\, salad\, rolls\, and homemade desserts. Cost is $10 per person and there will be a 50/50 raffle. \nLip Sync Battle\n6:30 p.m.\, Campus Center MPR\nCalling all music lovers! UMPI students\, faculty\, and staff will be competing for prizes and bragging rights during this third annual event. There is absolutely no singing allowed but dance moves and spot-on lip syncing are encouraged. Mark your calendars! \nFriday\, September 13th\nSpirit Week Activity: UMPI Memories Day\nAll day\nShare your favorite UMPI memory! The Snowy Owl Marketplace will feature a full slate of crafters and artisans\, live music\, food\, and more. From 11 a.m.-12 p.m.\, enjoy a Snowy Owl Art Battle–prepare to bid on your favorite painting! \nMolly the Trolley across campus\n10 a.m.-12 p.m.\, Meeting location: Gentile Hall parking lot\nHistorical tour covering various aspects of UMPI’s history.
