You do not have to work with one of our Peer Partners to participate in this recurring event\, it’s free\, and we provide snacks! Just show up\, bring some curiosity\, and let’s make Art! \nArt Supplies and Snacks are provided for free when in attendance at the weekly Art Group. Parental supervision is not required\, but the participants must meet the following criteria:  \n\n1. Be between the ages of 14 – 26\n2. Self-identify as having Mental Health struggles. DESCRIPTION:The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host longtime Yankee Magazine editor Mel Allen as its next speaker in the Libra Distinguished Lecture Series on Tuesday\, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center’s Multi-Purpose Room and via Zoom. Allen spent nearly a half-century at Yankee Magazine as a writer and editor. During his talk\, he will read from his new book\, “Here in New England\,” bringing the people and places of New England to life through storytelling and images. A book signing and reception with refreshments will immediately follow the talk\, which is free and open to the public. Neighborhood Books will offer copies of “Here in New England” for purchase after the talk. DESCRIPTION:Using stories he published from first-time writers\, Mel Allen will share what he has learned during his decades of writing and editing for Yankee Magazine. \nAttendees will learn the qualities of successful stories and pitches. Each participant is encouraged to submit a writing sample up to 1\,000 words to be used in discussions. \nThe workshop registration fee is $20 ($10 for students) and may be paid in advance or at the door.
