SUMMARY:Planetarium Show: Astronomy: 3000 Years of Stargazing
DESCRIPTION:Astronomy: 3000 Years of Stargazing \nTake an historical odyssey to learn about our oldest science! \nThroughout time\, the sky has piqued our curiosity. Eclipses\, the regular cycle of the seasons\, the rising and setting of the Moon\, Sun\, and planets\, the motion of the stars — all have fascinated mankind since our earliest ancestors first looked up. Monuments constructed across our home planet\, from Stonehenge to Machu Picchu\, bear witness to humanity’s ancient fascination with the stars. \nWith occasional observations from a learned cartoon astronomer\, “Alvin Astro”\, we retrace the milestones of cosmic discovery in this engaging history of astronomy. Rediscover the major astronomical theories of the last 3\,000 years — from the cosmological models of antiquity and the Ptolemaic system of epicycles — to the contributions of Copernicus\, Galileo\, Kepler\, Newton\, Herschel and Hubble. From Galileo’s telescope to modern instruments used on Earth and in space\, see how cutting-edge technology reveals a multi-wavelength universe of planets\, star birth regions\, nebulae\, pulsars\, black holes and galaxies. \nPreview at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVK-MuMnHSw \nSpace is limited to 30 people\, reservations are needed. Please call Jim Stepp at 207-554-7837 and leave a message containing your name\, the number of seats your party will need\, and your phone number. You will receive a call in the evening confirming your reservation. \nTickets are $5.00 per person.

SUMMARY:Automate IT Fall 2025
DESCRIPTION:Do you spend time thinking about how there “has to be an easier way”\, there “has to be a more effective way”\, or there has to be something that can “do this thing better and faster than me”?\nAs a small business owner\, you most likely think about this a lot but may not know where to start to figure it out! \nIn this 8-week cohort\, facilitated by Tara Servilio\, we will work from the point of view that implementing some targeted technology-based changes can support our business goals. We will also work from the point of view that we have limited resources\, including time\, capacity\, and financial means to do this with. \nYour goals may be to streamline\, create efficiencies\, focus your time differently\, increase awareness and sales\, organize your finances better\, or just generally increase your capabilities to run the business from end-to-end.\nOur objective is to: \nIdentify areas that could benefit from technology\, and define what that technology is\,\nHow technology will work within your business\,\nFocus on both front of house (customer experience\, processes\, and accessibility) and back of house (business and offering processes and administrative tasks).\nWe will alternate between Workshop Sessions\, where we learn and discuss concepts and tools\, and Lab Sessions\, where we spend time focused on applying the learning to our business. \nYou will leave the cohort with a support network\, as well as\, a clearly defined end-to-end view of what\, where\, why\, and how you want to implement technology into your business. \nThis program is for Maine-based business owners who are currently in-business. \nProgram Outline: \nDefine End-to-End Operations: We start by mapping out our businesses current end-to-end operations\, and the most important points of action within those. We will focus on identifying manual actions\, and if those should stay as is\, or evolve into a more standardized or automated action.\nIdentify Areas of Opportunities: Through the definitional work done above\, you will identify where there are pain points\, constraints\, and opportunities for technology to support these activities. Again\, keeping in mind if that activity is best supported by being manual\, standardized\, and / or automated in some way.\nPlan and Budget for Change: Having clearly understood what you need to focus on\, we will work to identify technologies and options to fit your needs\, and begin to plan the time\, and resources required to make it happen\, including vendors\, money\, and knowledge / information.\nSession Dates: \nMonday\, September 8th\, 9:00am-10:30am\nMonday\, September 15th\, 9:00am-10:30am\nMonday\, September 22nd\, 9:00am-10:30am\nMonday\, September 29th\, 9:00am-10:30am\nMonday\, October 6th\, 9:00am-10:30am\n(No Session October 13th)\nMonday\, October 20th\, 9:00am-10:30am\nMonday\, October 27th\, 9:00am-10:30am\nMonday\, November 3rd\, 9:00am-10:30am
